'Slopes of Redcloud Peak', by Lynn Cyrus / Cascade Colors. Redcloud Peak, a mountain near Lake City in southwest Colorado, is composed of rock and soil that is rich in orange, red, and brown tones. Patches of this colorful rock can be seen in this landscape photograph taken a few hundred feet beneath the summit. Alpine Sunflower wildflowers grow on these slopes in mid July. This is a 14er (fourteener) mountain, a mountain that is 14,000 or more feet in elevation above sea level. It is in the San Juans range of the Rocky Mountains.
