Artist's Description
Original watercolor painting, 'Purple-throated Mountain Gems and Flowers', by Lynn Cyrus / Cascade Colors. I chose to paint a pair of these beautiful small hummingbirds, a male and female, perched next to each other on adjacent stems. These colorful, tiny, iridescent birds can be found in parts of the Central American cloud forests - tracts of tropical rainforest at higher elevations. I had the pleasure of viewing and photographing these lovely hummingbirds while visiting Costa Rica and touring the Monteverde Preserve, near the community of Santa Elena. In this composition, I chose to paint bright fuchsia-purple flowers in the background. This soft, lovely piece was the First Place winner in the 'Your Favorite Tote Bag' contest on Fine Art America, January 2016!
