The Cumberland Plateau rises to the west of the Appalachians in southeastern North America. Some specialty wildflowers and butterflies live in this region, along with more common species. In this painting, the Diana Fritillary, Northern Pearly Eye, Dusted Skipper, Falcate Orangetip, Carolina Satyr, Red-spotted Purple, Red-banded Hairstreak, Question Mark, and Little Yellow butterflies are featured, along with skullcap, Dwarf Blazing Star, Indian Pink, Spring Beauty, Tick Trefoil, Virginia Meadow Beauty, butterfly weed, false foxglove, and tickseed wildflowers.
