Original watercolor painting, 'Pika on the Rocks', by Lynn Cyrus / Cascade Colors. I adore little pikas, small animals of the high elevation mountain alpine ecosystems, who are related to the rabbit family. The scamper and scurry quickly across large rocks and boulders in boulder fields, gathering flowers and leaves in the short summer growing season to collect and store in their burrows beneath the rocks for the long winter months. I see pikas on many of my hikes above treeline in the Colorado Rocky Mountains, and never tire of watching them.
