Wildsumaco is a preserve located on the eastern slopes of the Andes in northern Ecuador, near Sumaco volcano and over a thousand feet above the Amazon rainforest, in higher elevation forest. Hundreds of bird species have visited this area, and this painting contains just a small number of the variety of beautiful neotropical birds one can see in this ecosystem. Besides depicting the birds, I had the goal of depicting an integrated ecosystem / a 'story' -- with some impressions of cloud forest trees rising up, leaves, more continuous branches, some of the birds fully in the open, others more obscured or peeking out from behind leaves or a trunk.
