Original watercolor painting, 'San Juans Summer Mountains and Wildflowers', by Lynn Cyrus / Cascade Colors. The San Juans remain one of my favorite ranges of the Colorado Rocky Mountains, rising in the southwest portion of the state. Higher amounts of rainfall are received here, resulting in lush alpine meadows filled with colorful wildflowers in the short summer months, and green vegetation covering the lower mountain slopes. This piece is based on a beautiful view near the Yankee Boy Basin, within the Mount Sneffels Wilderness. This preserved area is near the lovely, scenic community of Ouray. Here, thick, tall Indian Paintbrush and Rosy Paintbrush blooms grow in the foreground, and meadow and forest cover the slopes in the background, with a mountain peak rising in the distance. This piece is perfect for the lover of the Colorado wilderness and the beauty of the alpine.
