Original watercolor painting, 'Handie's Peak Landscape with Blue Columbine', by Lynn Cyrus / Cascade Colors. I ascended the summit of the 14er (fourteener) Handie's Peak nearly ten years ago, and it was a memorable morning. Wildflowers were blooming in the alpine basin above treeline and beneath the peak, and it was the perfect summer mountain morning. Fourteeners are mountains rising over 14,000 feet in elevation, and this one lies just west of Lake City, Colorado, in the San Juans portion of the Rocky Mountains. From this vantage point, Handie's is actually the peak farther to the right in the background, but the nearer, lower peak made for a lovely composition.
