This colorful summer scene will be loved by those who live in or have passed through the lovely town of Silverthorne, which lies in the central Colorado Rockies between the ski communities of Steamboat Springs and Breckenridge. Here, on this sunny afternoon with rain clouds rolling in, in mid June, wildflowers abound and are blooming on the lower mountain slopes of Ptarmigan Peak. Bright yellow Arrowleaf Balsamroot flowers rise from the soil; members of the sunflower family. The lake, which lies beside the town of Silverthorne, can be seen below.
