Description
'Mountain Detail above Yankee Basin', by Lynn Cyrus / Cascade Colors. This photograph shows the jagged ridges of the mountains across the basin to the south/southwest, seen from near the summit of Mount Sneffels. A fair amount of snow still lies along the slopes of many of these mountains in mid July, though hiking is perfect in the summer. Mount Sneffels is a 14er (fourteener), a mountain that is 14,000 feet or higher above sea level in elevation. 14er's are popular hiking destinations for many outdoor enthusiasts in Colorado, with over 50 in the state. Sneffels Peak rises near the lovely community of Ouray. A rich blue sky with puffy clouds greets you on this summer morning in July.
