Description
'Ice Lake Summer Colors', a fine art landscape and nature photograph by Lynn Cyrus / Cascade Colors. I've spent the past few days reminiscing over how fortunate I've been over the years to see much unspoiled wilderness during my time in Colorado - particularly since in recent years recreational use in these lands has skyrocketed and damage is beginning to occur. In fact, Ice Lake and the access to it was actually closed this year due to this new problem, which is shockingly sad. This is an older image that I hadn't yet uploaded, and I think it deserves to be part of this portfolio. Ice Lake has historically been a more isolated, pristine alpine lake in the heart of the San Juans range of the Rocky Mountains. It is breathtakingly beautiful, and here its clear aqua colors shine with a blue sky overhead. Buttercup wildflowers bloom brightly in the foreground, and colorful mountain peaks rise in the background.

Ice Lake is indeed a memorable place -- twenty-five years ago now for me. It was past mid-September but very nice weather. Still, it got below 20°F overnight and froze the water I'd left outside the tent. The next day it was barely up to 32°F at the summit level. Climbing Golden Horn (peak) is a must-do if you're in the area as it has one of the airiest summits in Colorado; holds only 2-3 people and you don't want to be up there in any kind of wind without a short length of rope or sling material as it's nearly 1000 feet down to the tundra below. Your photos make me want to see it during the summer wildflower season.
