'Handie's Peak Summer Landscape', by Lynn Cyrus / Cascade Colors. One of the most beautiful mountain meadows I have ever encountered lies on the slopes of Handie's Peak, at treeline. By mid July, the meadows are filled with green plant life, growing in the short summer season. Various species of wildflower dot the meadows, certain species dominating certain patches, others elsewhere. Here, many loosestrife blooms reach towards the sky on tall, narrow stalks. A stream rushes from higher altitudes down the slope, bringing moisture to this mountainside. Not too long after sunrise, the lighting is still somewhat subdued under partial cloud cover. It is a beautiful summer morning indeed! Handie's Peak is a 14er (fourteener), a mountain with elevation of 14,000 feet or greater.
