Description

Original watercolor painting, 'Shorebird and the Sea', by Lynn Cyrus / Cascade Colors. In painting this piece, I was inspired by the Dunlin, a medium-sized shorebird of the sandpiper family. I wasn't aiming for total realism, as I wanted the colors to flow and I painted his shape freehand. I wanted to bring out the rocky and rough contours of the shoreline and rocks he was perched on, and chose a variety of colors to add depth and contrast. The still ocean waters in the background complete the composition, with hints of gentles waves.
