Description
'Spotted Towhee in Spring', a fine art nature photograph by Lynn Cyrus / Cascade Colors. The Spotted Towhee is the cousin of the eastern Rufous-sided Towhee, both which are songbirds of North America. Towhees are medium-sized birds that usually stick pretty low to the ground, searching for food among the dead leaves covering the forest floor, and working their way up to higher perches when singing. I came across this beautiful male in song in early spring at Barr Lake State Park / Barr Lake Wildlife Refuge, in the outer rural suburbs of Denver, Colorado. A brilliant clear blue sky shines behind him as he rests between songs.
